This unique pop-up will allow fans a chance to eat, drink, and soak up some '80s movie nostalgia.

A fictional restaurant is coming to life in Springfield later this month. McDowell’s, the restaurant featured in the 1988 movie Coming to America, is setting up a storefront in Northern Virginia. The restaurant was a knock-off of McDonald’s and became a pop culture reference for anyone familiar with the movie.

In the movie, the restaurant was located in Queens, New York, the city where Prince Akeem Joffer (Eddie Murphy) landed when he came to America to find a wife. Akeem and his bodyguard Semmi (Arsenio Hall) get jobs at McDowell’s in order to get closer to the owner’s daughter, Lisa.

The McDowell’s pop-up will be located in the Springfield Town Center on the lower level and runs from May 20–June 5, Thursdays to Sundays.

Guests can dine on a "Big Mick" and a "Sexy Chocolate Cake Shake," while living out their Coming to America dreams.

Unlike a typical fast-food restaurant, advance tickets will be required for entry. There are three ticket packages available:

  • VIP: includes everything in the regular package plus a McDowell’s t-shirt ($50)
  • Regular: includes a sandwich, chips drink, and McDowell’s patch ($35)
  • Kids' meal: includes choice of a burger or chicken nuggets ($15)
