To prevent the risk of spreading the virus, the popular rodeo event has been canceled.

Considered to be the world's largest outdoor rodeo, the 2020 Cheyenne Frontier Days has been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. This marks the first time in its 124-year history that the event will not be taking place.

Cheyenne Mayor Marian Orr told The Associated Press that the risk was "too great". Typically, more than 140,000 people visit the city and attend the event over the last two weeks in July.

"What this pandemic means is we just can’t come together," Orr said. "We really have to stay apart so we can come together again sooner rather than later. It’s clear that we just aren’t going to be ready for this."

According to the Cheyenne Frontier Days website, ticket sales have been suspended and their Refund Policy has been updated accordingly. Tickets for the 2020 Rodeo and PBR Bull Riding will automatically roll over to the 2021 season (unless otherwise specified via the application), states the site.

If you were looking forward to seeing Thomas Rhett, Eric Church, and Blake Shelton perform at the rodeo event, those shows have been rescheduled for 2021. Tickets for the concerts will be reissued when tickets go on sale next year.

The 2021 Cheyenne Frontier Days will take place from July 23 through August 1, 2021.
