Sweet, fun, and unexpectedly chewy—what more could you want in a drink?

If you like tapioca pudding, you'll probably love bubble tea. If you take your tea milky and plenty sweet, then you'll definitely enjoy the bubble tea experience. If you're looking for an Instagram-worthy beverage, then search no further. It's National Bubble Tea Day, and that means this Asian sensation has 24 hours to shine.

In a nutshell, bubble tea is iced tea with a bunch of tapioca pearls in it. The most popular flavors are based on milky strong teas, but you can also get boba (the chewy pearls) in your favorite fruit slushy or iced coffee as well.

Though these sippable sweet treats have only been around since the 1980s, they have truly taken the world by storm. You can find a good bubble tea in a specialty store like Kung Fu Tea or even in little mom-and-pop Asian restaurants. Many ice cream stores and cafés have jumped on the bubble tea bandwagon, so it should be easy for you to find your fix.

For first-timers unsure of how to order, you can always ask the store to light on the boba and see how you like the distinctive texture of the pearls. If the chewy little bubbles aren't to your taste, then just leave them at the bottom and know for next time! Personally, I go for coconut jellies in fun shapes like stars with an exotic slushy like passion fruit or mango. Whatever your vice, chances are, there's a bubble tea to go with it.
