Goooooaaaaallllll! Denver has been named one of 15 cities to host the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) has named Denver as a host city for the 2019 Gold Cup. Sports Authority Field will be one of 15 venues across North America, 13 of which are in the United States. The CONCACAF Gold Cup is a soccer tournament held every two years, with six national teams having already qualified this year: the U.S., Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, and Trinidad and Tobago. https://www.facebook.com/coloradorapids/videos/10156202280321091/
In 2017, about 50,000 attended a doubleheader between El Salvador and Curacao, and Mexico and Jamaica in Denver -- making it one of the highest-attended games in that year's Gold Cup. It's even more impressive considering that the U.S. team was not playing.
"Denver is honored to once again host one of the major soccer tournaments in the world," Matthew Payne, executive director of the Denver Sports Commission, said in a statement. "The city greeted the 2017 Gold Cup with large, energetic crowds of soccer fans, and The Mile High City is ready for another big matchup next summer."
Dates for Denver's matches have yet to be announced. More news regarding the schedule is expected to be shared over the next year.
