School District 27J, in Brighton, will now have four-day weeks instead of the typical five-day, starting in August.

Back in January, we posted that Brighton-based School District 27J had plans to change its typical five-days-a-week schedule to four days. Well, a decision has finally been made. On Monday, March 19, the school district officially announced that the Colorado Department of Education approved the application and that they are moving forward with the plan for the 2018-19 school year. This new change will take effect in August for the 2018-19 school year.
"I realize this will be a significant change for our students, their families, and the communities we are so fortunate to serve, but our district can longer be expected to do more with less financial resources," said 27J Superintendent Chris Fiedler in a statement released by the school district. "To that end, I believe it is in our students' best interest to provide high quality, engaged teachers using 21st Century tools for learning four days a week rather than not have them five days a week."
The district marks as the first in the Denver metro area to transition to a four-day week. Students will attend school Tuesday to Friday and have every Monday off. All of the district's schools will provide all-day child care (for grades K-5) on Mondays, with continuous before- and after-school care from Tuesday to Friday.
