In honor of NBC's new show, Rise, 50 high school theatre programs were chosen from 1,000 applicants and will each be awarded a $10,000 grant, including a school in Colorado.
With the launch of its new drama series, Rise, NBC has announced the recipients of its $10,000 R.I.S.E. (Recognizing and Inspiring Student Expression) America Grant. Out of 1,000 applicants, only 50 schools were chosen, including one from Colorado. Kunsmiller Creative Arts Academy in Denver will receive the $10,000 grant, which will go towards assisting its theatre program and supplying it with technical equipment, production expenses, master classes, and any other needs the school may have. NBC has partnered with the nonprofit Educational Theatre Foundation (ETF) to make these grants a possibility for schools across the country.
Jason Katims, Rise's creator and executive producer, said in a statement,
"It has never been clearer that the future of our country rests on the shoulders of the next generation of young leaders. I am excited about the notion that the R.I.S.E. America grants will help support, inspire and nurture creative young minds throughout the country, especially at a time when arts in education is under-valued and under-funded."Rise premieres on NBC on March 13, and it focuses on a teacher (Josh Radnor) who takes over the school's lackluster theatre department, bringing its students and faculty, along with its surrounding community, together.
