Following the announcement of Denver Police Chief Robert White's retirement in April, the City of Denver is in search of its next police chief.
And YOU have a say about who Denver's next police chief should be. "Community input is a vital component of the selection of Denver's next police chief," Denver Mayor Michael Hancock said in a statement. The City of Denver has already hosted one meeting with the public, with four more to come in the next few weeks, and they are as follows:- Tuesday, May 29 -- 6 to 7:30 p.m. at PPA Event Center, 2105 Decatur St., Denver
- Tuesday, June 5 -- 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Westwood Community Center (SWIC), 1000 S. Lowell Blvd., Denver
- Thursday, June 7 -- 6 to 7:30 p.m. at The Hope Center, 3475 Holly St., Denver
- Saturday, June 9 -- 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Windsor Gardens (Center Point), 597 S. Clinton St., Denver
This search started after Denver Police Chief Robert White announced his retirement from the force in late April. White will officially retire once a new police chief has been appointed.
In order to be qualified for the position, the candidate must be a current or retired member of the Denver Police Department who has held a rank of lieutenant or higher for at least five years.
The Police Executive Research Forum (PERF), a nonprofit with more than 30 years of experience in recruiting candidates for police chief, will be reviewing the applications and submit a pool of candidates to the Police Chief Search Committee. The committee will then review that final selection of candidates and pass them on to the mayor.
