The Regeneron Science Talent Search is one of the country's oldest and most prestigious science and math competitions for high school seniors. And three Colorado students have been named finalists.
It's no small feat, but three Colorado high school seniors have managed to secure spots as this year's finalists in the prestigious Regeneron Science Talent Search competition -- Kyle Fridberg (Fairview High School), Abilash Prabhakaran (Cherry Creek High School), and Isani Singh (Cherry Creek High School). Kyle Fridberg is working on a precursor for new lithium-ion batteries; Abilash Prabhakaran is trying to find a new way to deliver cancer drugs that won't affect healthy cells; and Isani Singh is researching Turner Syndrome and its impact on genes. George D. Yancopoulos, M.D., Ph.D., President and Chief Scientific Officer of Regeneron and Science Talent Search winner (1976), said in a statement,
"The Regeneron Science Talent Search finalists are tomorrow’s scientific leaders, and their projects address some of the most urgent challenges we face as a society. Our world has no greater or more important resource than these bright young minds."The students are three of 40 finalists and will head to Washington, D.C., between March 8-14, where they will go through a judging process and compete for more than $1.8 million in awards. Also during their trip, the students will have the opportunity to meet with scientists and members of Congress, as well as have their projects on display at the National Museum of Women in the Arts on March 11. Each of the 40 finalists is awarded $25,000, with the top 10 awards ranging from $40,000 to $250,000. The top 10 winners will be announced at a gala ceremony at the National Building Museum on March 13. Congratulations to all of the finalists! What do you think?
