Over 20 stores will be hiring at the upcoming Spring Job Fair at the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City. Dust off that resumé and get ready to fill out some applications!
Retail positions at all levels will be available at the mall-wide hiring event on March 22 and 23. Applicants can meet hiring managers on the spot or collect application forms to take home and fill out.

WHERE: Fashion Centre at Pentagon City | 1100 South Hayes Street | Arlington, VA
Head to the Metro level of the mall and look for the job fair tables. Store representatives will also be on the first level near Sephora.
Participating retailers include Brighton Collectibles, Calzedonia, Express, Intimissimi, Mezlan, Macy's, My Eye Dr., MAC, Nepresso, Pandora, White House Black Market, and more.
On-the-spot Interviewing 101
Even though it won't necessarily be a formal interview, hiring managers will be taking note of how you interact with them. If they ask you questions on the spot, have some professional responses ready. Basic interview questions might include:
- What type of retail or sales experience do you have?
- Do you have customer service experience?
- What are some of your strengths? Weaknesses?
- What type of schedule would you be available to work?
- Do you have experience supervising others?
In addition to these standard questions, they may hit you with some behavioral questions. These require more thought, so spend a little time coming up with a few versatile responses. Examples of behavioral interview questions are:
- Tell me about a time when you faced a major challenge and you figured out a way to overcome it.
- Describe a time when you had to lead a team of people to complete a task and how you did it.
- Tell me about an instance where you had to give someone constructive criticism.
Know Before You Go
Dress for the job you want in a business-like outfit. At the very least, leave the denim and sneakers at home. Have a plain folder to hold copies of your resumé (bring at least 10) and a pen or two. No limp handshakes!
You probably have a better chance of talking to someone if you get there early. As you browse the available jobs, keep a smile on -- you never know if someone could be your future boss! Whatever you do, don't complain about filling out the applications, even if all of the information is on your resumé. Dozens of people will be doing the exact same thing and you don't want to be noticed as a whiner.
If you think you click with someone, be sure to ask for their business card. Follow up with a nice email that evening, thanking them for the opportunity to learn more about their job. Best of luck to you!
