The Metropolitan Police Department has announced extensive road closures in Georgetown for the annual Halloween festivities. From 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 31, until the wee hours on Nov. 1, both Wisconsin Avenue and M Street will have significant traffic restrictions.

Good news for revelers, bad news for drivers -- in preparation for the thousands of Halloween visitors anticipated, MPD will be closing side streets off to cars in Georgetown. From 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 31, until approximately 3 a.m. on Nov. 1, M Street will be a straight shot from Pennsylvania, NW to the Key Bridge. Wisconsin Avenue, NW will be restricted to through traffic at that same time, from K Street, NW to O Street, NW.

If you're driving in from Virginia and plan on coming up the Key Bridge, you probably want to consider taking a different way in. Restrictions on the Memorial Bridge will force everyone to the other three Potomac bridges on that side, and the closures will likely cause a huge backup into Rosslyn. Your best bet is to take Metro north of Georgetown and catch a ride down to M Street or walk. Street parking in the area will be converted to emergency parking for the night as well.

Only local residents, business owners, and employees will have access to the closed side streets. All of the street closures listed are subject to change as determined by the Metropolitan Police Department.
