Watch as the most-despised holiday dessert takes to the skies in Manitou Springs' 22nd annual Great Fruitcake Toss on January 27!

Never has there been a more hated holiday dessert than fruitcake. The tooth-breaking, nut- and fruit-filled cake has been the butt of dessert jokes for as long as anyone can remember. Well, the folks in Manitou Springs are channeling that hatred and taking it to the skies in an epic display of craftsmanship and pure, unadulterated fun at the Great Fruitcake Toss. When: January 27, 2018, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Where: Memorial Park Cost: One non-perishable food item -- all donated food items will be donated to a local food bank. If you haven't the time nor patience (or desire) to bake your own fruitcake, there are cakes available for rent for $1. There are five tossing events, each with prizes awarded: Hand Toss Distance, Accuracy, Speed, Best "Balance," and Robotic (mechanical, three-man slingshot toss for distance). But, if you'd rather bake than toss, there's the Too Good to Toss Fruitcake Bake-Off. Local bakers will have the opportunity to compete for the best organic, non-GMO, natural fruitcake and win the title of Fruitcake King or Queen. Winners will be determined by the community. If you're interested in more information, please visit the Manitou Springs' website. What do you say? Will you be taking part in a proud Manitou Springs tradition and watch as the fruitcakes fly at the Great Fruitcake Toss? Let us know in the comments below. We'll see you there!
