Owned and operated by Zachary Smith, a former Army medic, U.S. Veteran Woodworks in Colorado Springs aims to create one-of-a-kind, customizable pieces, from tables to clocks and everything in between.
After serving in the Army as a medic, Zachary Smith yearned for a way to chase the American dream that many of us strive for and, ultimately, what he served for. What started as a simple project to symbolize his service to our country and to help comfort him as he transitioned into civilian life suddenly turned into U.S. Veteran Woodworks -- a woodworking company that specializes in American flags, Colorado flags, military designs, and custom pieces.
And, in the two years since starting the business, he's created more than 550 pieces for customers all across the world and in the U.S., including Secretary of Defense General James Mattis and Donald Stratton, a local USS Arizona survivor. Smith has also donated multiple pieces of work to families of police officers, firefighters, and military service members who lost their lives in the line of duty.

"Each flag has a story behind it, and a multitude of people that are impacted. The best part of my day is knowing that I get to help tell that story, and be a blessing to someone else’s life."
On average, it takes Smith anywhere from six days to two weeks to complete a custom piece. "It's reflected in my work because to me it's a labor of love."
His work ranges from military insignia and patches to local landmarks, American and Colorado flags, and basically anything else you can think of. As Smith says, "If you can dream it, I can build it." So there's really no limit to what he can do -- several of his creations even glow in the dark!
The woodwork creations run as low as $125 all the way up to $1,000, depending on the type of piece. Check out his incredible works of art below:
