Timed ticketing will be in place, and some attractions will be closed.

A popular Maryland attraction is finally opening its gates for the summer season. The Maryland Zoo has reopened to the public, providing a place for visitors to enjoy the outdoors and view animals from different ecosystems around the world. Timed entry tickets must be purchased online, and guests over nine years old are encouraged to wear masks. One-way traffic is in place to help encourage social distancing, and staff will be cleaning and sanitizing throughout the day. 

During the shutdown, the animals were cared for by zoo veterinarians, and now everyone is ready to welcome visitors back inside the gates.

“We’re excited and ready to welcome visitors back to the Zoo,” said Don Hutchinson, president and CEO of The Maryland Zoo. “We feel our sprawling, outdoor setting provides a perfect opportunity for a fun excursion and a way to make positive memories during this unusual time.”

Many of the rides and zoo experience exhibits like the penguin encounter, carousel, and the Jones Falls Zephyr Train ride will remain closed for the time being. Despite the closures, visitors can still see almost all of the animals and enjoy food and drink throughout the zoo. One thing visitors can still watch are the daily penguin and pelican feedings. Check the calendar for days and times. 

The Maryland Zoo is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the last admission at 3 p.m. Tickets start at $18 for children aged 2 to 11 and $24 for adults and children over 12. Children under age 2 are admitted free, and parking is free. If you can’t make your appointment, tickets can be rescheduled for a $20 fee.
