A new museum in downtown D.C. lets you explore a world of visual illusions.

D.C. is rounding out the end of the year by opening a new museum. The Museum of Illusions opened its doors on December 13 at CityCenterDC. The museum is full of interactive exhibits that allow visitors to immerse themselves in mirrored rooms, light vortex, and sleight-of-hand illusions.

The new museum is one of 40 opened worldwide by the largest private museum brand, the Museum of Illusions.

Museum of Illusions has more than 50 exhibits, including several inspired by the city. The infinity mirror room is a play on the popular Yayoi Kusama exhibit, which is on display at the Hirshhorn, and the Reverse Room lets visitors feel like they are hanging from a Metro car’s ceiling. Take a picture with your head on a tray in the Head on the Platter exhibit and create five doppelgängers at the Clone Table. A smart playroom lets visitors play games, solve puzzles, and complete complicated brain teasers.

All of the museum’s exhibits are picture and social-media-friendly, allowing guests to share the experience with family and friends. It’s also a great place to take a group of friends day or night out in the city.

Like most museums, the Museum of Illusions operates on a timed ticketing system. Most people spend about 45 to 60 minutes inside the galleries. Tickets are $23.95 for adults and $18.95 for children aged 5 to 12. Discounts are available for seniors, students, and members of the military.

Museum of Illusions Washington DC is located at CityCenterDC and is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays. Parking is limited downtown, so it's best to access the museum via Metro at the Gallery Place/Chinatown station.
