Head to the mountains to enjoy the 62nd annual holiday market in a town with year-round charm and history.

If you are looking for holiday spirit this year, you are almost guaranteed to find it at a traditional Christmas celebration reminiscent of our state's early days, all held in one of Colorado's coolest mining towns. It's all things holiday in Georgetown on December 3–4 and 10–11, and you can make an easy day trip to celebrate the festivities!

Honestly, Hallmark doesn't hold a candle to this community during the holiday season.

"Thousands come to this tiny mountain town to experience a traditional holiday where Christmas hasn't changed in 100 years: roasted chestnuts, holiday shopping, horse-drawn wagon rides through historic Georgetown, and wonderful sights and smells," says historicgeorgetown.org.

Visitors can explore the shops, enjoy holiday treats, take a wagon ride through the streets, and even see St. Nicholas in his traditional dress during the daily procession of Santa Lucia. Stroll the outdoor European marketplace to find handcrafted gifts for the whole family, all while being entertained by carolers in Victorian costume, dancers, and much more.

Georgetown, once called the Silver Queen of the Rockies, was founded as a gold-mining camp in 1859. Gold mining didn't last long, giving way to a silver boom that fueled the town's growth and success, until the bottom fell out of the market. The town hung on through many bust years, and today, it's home to several preserved, historic buildings, as well as attractions that bring people from near and far. It really is worth a trip any time of year to enjoy the mountain scenery, the bighorn sheep, seasonal colors, the Georgetown Loop Railroad (which also has some fun winter train rides to offer), and the museums and shops of the town.

Winter is no exception, thanks in part to the wonderful Christmas Market. It's a perfect day trip (or even weekend getaway) for those that desire nostalgic, hometown holiday cheer!

In addition to the charming decor and wonderful shops and activities, visitors to the market will enjoy tours of the historic Hamill House, Hotel de Paris and Energy Museums and Georgetown Heritage Center. It's really a must-do event of the holiday season, and a fun family day trip filled with festivity, food, and true Colorado spirit.

Please note that parking can be challenging, so as with every event in this state, it might be best to arrive early and plan accordingly. Or heck, why not get a room at one of the fun lodging options and make a weekend of it!
