At its core, Eastern Market is a farmers' market and food hall, so of course, there is a wide variety of fresh, local produce for sale. Stock up on the best of what's in season and don't be shy about asking the origin of the produce. Though you may be a Honeycrisp fan, striking up a conversation with a farmer may help broaden your taste horizons.

Appreciate the art.

Eastern Market is also known for having beautiful, creative art in many different forms. If you love pieces that represent the local Washington, D.C., community, there are several artists that either photograph or paint not just important city landmarks, but also quaint corners of the city! While it’s iconic to display a painting of the Lincoln Memorial, there’s something even more special about having your favorite neighborhood framed in your living room.

If you like the kind of art that sparkles in the sun, the weekend market has you covered. Vendors display their wares on table after table, and you can find all sorts of unique creations. From hammered precious metals to strands of polished stones, you'll have a ball trying it all on.

Listen to live music!

Weekends are made brighter with the sounds of local musicians in the far end of the food hall. Have a seat and enjoy the artistry of all different genres of music. 

Have a great meal.

With dozens of market vendors and food trucks, your options for breakfast or lunch are endless. Try a freshly griddled half smoke right in the main food hall. Browse the enormous pastries and buy a selection to take home for your morning coffee. Out back, you can get everything from empanadas to crepes made to order. Whatever you do, come hungry!

Practice your photography skills.

In addition to snapping photos at the market, the Capitol Hill neighborhood is very picturesque. The side streets are historic and quaint, with many of the row houses over a century old. The market itself is lively, filled with color and all sorts of subjects.
